Dwain Burns attended McMaster University and received an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree (summa cum laude) in 1989. Dwain received his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1992.
Dwain articled at Agro, Zaffiro, Parente, Orzel & Baker, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994. Dwain practiced insurance litigation at Agro Zaffiro and the Toronto firm of MacMillan Rooke Boeckle before Joining Sigurdson & Associates in 2000 as a trial lawyer. Prior to re-joining Agro Zaffiro in February of 2016, Dwain was the Managing Lawyer of the Burlington Office of TD Insurance Staff Legal formerly known as Sigurdson, Courtlander, Burns & Silverstone.
Dwain has over 23 years of experience as an insurance defence lawyer. Dwain has experience in all areas of insurance law including motor vehicle, accident benefits, construction, professional negligence, products liability and property claims. Dwain has attended Liberty Mutual’s Anti-Fraud Academy and Advanced Trial Advocacy Program and has obtained a certificate from the University of Windsor in Alternative Dispute resolution.
Dwain has represented clients before the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. Dwain has conducted numerous trials, arbitrations and appeals and has over 30 reported decisions in insurance law. Dwain is often called upon to make presentations or be an insurance defence panel expert at seminars and continuing legal education courses.
Dwain is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Hamilton Law Association and Canadian Defence Lawyers. Dwain is a member of the Board of Directors of Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services.
